Please help this dream become a reality! The sole purpose of CMP is to honor the over 52,000 imprisoned in Point Lookout and the over 14,000 who died there ... military/civilian, men/women/children of all races. This will be done by erecting a POW statue, state flags, native state trees/flowers, memorial benches, flood lights, etc.

In Their Memory

A Song Written about Pt. Lookout's POWs!

Song Writer/recording artist, Robert Lloyd has written and recorded a song (Let Freedom Ring) about our Flag battle at Pt. Lookout. He has done this as an effort to raise money for Confederate Memorial Park. His letter is as follows:

Via news articles and such, I have kept up on your valiant fight for the proper flying of the Confederate flag over the Confederate graves and the memorial that has been proposed. May the Lord bless your work and help in its eventual fruition. The disrespect of the ‘empire’ through the workings of its godless National Park Service is just more in the long line of 140 years of rewriting and covering up history and the truth ... Robert Lloyd, Ft. Myers, FL

The other songs on the CD are all sung by PLPOW's own Wade Harris. Some of the songs, such as "The Flag" and "The Storms of Life," he composed. Wade is accompanied by Ronnie "Lightening" Daeke on the dobro, Richard "Terrapin" Winstead on the harmonica and Wade Hampton"Pete" Wright on snares!

I tried to put myself in the first person of a prisoner, what the thought, what he had to look forward to "if" he got back home. What he found was heart breaking. Most found poverty and hunger, which ruined the health of allot of people who were left behind to care for the homestead. Information handed down to me from my family was that my Pt. Lookout ancestor's health was bad and the "ritis" boys had moved in. The cold with not enough clothing, the starvation diet, the lack of medical attention, all contributed to his suffering for the rest of his life. My other relative, Uncle John, who is under that yankee stone (I hope) didn't make it back. Their other brother Pickney, died in Richmond and is buried at Hollywood Cemetery. As you see, even if they survived, that "Storm of Life" was hanging over them for the rest of their days.

There are enough Confederate descendants in this country to overcome any problem we have if they would just "do something." If my effort is in any way helpful to get the job done, then I have done my duty and honored my ancestor in doing so. I hope this project is successful. I hope to see any funds we raise, used to complete Confederate Memorial Park to honor our heritage and the good name of those men who gave their all....Wade Harris from Youngsville, NC.

Our sincerest THANKS to Robert Lloyd and Wade Harris, not only for their generous offer in this labor of love, but for caring enough to keep the memory of our CSA-POW ancestors alive! In the words of William Wallace ... F-R-E-E-D-O-M! May Freedom Ring someday {soon} loud, clear and long for those who gave their all and are buried on land and sea at Pt. Lookout, as well as the lingering Confederate spirits who still haunt its grounds.

The grounds of Pt. Lookout are rumbling with the cries of POWs for their cherished battle flag! Confederate Memorial Park’s purpose is to return the POWs’ flag and to honor their memory and sacrifice with a POW statue and state flags. You can help by purchasing this CD. Thank you.
